Q : It’s so good to see you again Laura. It’s been over a year since we hung out and took some pictures together. The cliched phrase “so much happened this past year” is so very true and humbling. A vicious virus changed the world and changed our lives. Crazy ! So, where have you been in the meantime and what have you been up to.
A: So genius to see you all too! Yes proper madness over this past year. Unfathomable. I ended up riding out lockdown alone on Martha’s Vineyard. It was challenging to be alone yet I am so grateful because everyday I had access to the most beautiful nature. I got a lot of thinking done and decided as soon as I could I’d shoot to the UK to see my family. Which I did and that then led me to go to art college which in turn now sees me planning to go to university in September to study fine art. It’s another massive life change but I am blessed to have a life and these opportunities so I’m gonna use them. And trust that all will be well!
Q : When we met to take these pictures, you were saying something about “change” and how you’re not good with change. What did you mean by that ?
A : I did say that and then Chris made a note on how much I change in my life so I guess I am good with it. I think it’s probably that I wish that I could get to the point where change didn’t feel uncomfortable or the unknown be scary. I am practicing the mantra “I love the unknown” - which is a lie but hoping the ‘act as if’ will start penetrating through!
As an artist I work with many different mediums and I guess my life does to. I believe life is art.
Q : You’ve been a fashion model for a long time. Also know that now you’re very select about who you work with and we are so fortunate that you choose to work with 6397. Your career has spanned from modeling to costume design ( you worked with Madonna on some of her world tours ) to photography and now you’ve enrolled in Goldsmiths Arts College to pursue fine art. Where do you find that inspiration, drive and energy.
A : Wanting to stay alive and feel life inspires and drives me. There is a part of me that does not believe I am worthy of life so I have to do what I can to counteract that voice. I hope my actions and adventures can inspire others to know they can do the same.
