Meet our friend Meryl Smith, a New York born, bred, and based artist. Her art is process oriented, using meticulous techniques and unconventional materials to create fantastical paintings, sculptures and drawings that celebrate the beauty of animals and nature. And often, her artwork goes beyond those mediums. She has collaborated with director Spike Jonze on a short film, and has also curated windows for Opening Ceremony. Meryl has had several gallery and museum exhibitions in New York, as well as cities around the world – Paris, London, and Sydney to name a few. We spent an afternoon with Meryl at her studio in Williamsburg, wearing her picks from our Pre-Fall 18 collection:
What inspired you to become an artist, and what is the inspiration behind your work?
