We are thrilled to present William Tyler’s Works on Paper, a series of work using ink and colored pencil on paper. This is our 7th exhibit collaborating with the Creative Growth Arts Center studio in Oakland, CA.
William Tyler has been an artist at Creative Growth since 1978. When I first visited CGAC back in the late 90’s, William was there in the studio working on super precise and linear renderings in color pencil and ink. I was struck by the seemingly innocent yet sharp insight on social themes that he expressed in his beautifully naive way. William’s work often explores notions of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, through detailed idiosyncratic accounts that seem to border on parables or koans. With his text and images, he assesses objects, actions, news, and personal narratives. It really brings me great joy to be able to present his work in the 6397 store.
William’s work has been written about in the New York Times and extensively exhibited in the U.S and Europe, and included in shows at the Outsider Art Fair, New York, Felix Art Fair, Los Angeles, Galerie Giti Nourbakhsch, Berlin, and at Madmusée, Liège.
