Aoi-san, it is very nice to meet you in this way. Although I don’t know you personally, I’ve heard so much about you from my co-worker Akane. I know you have been very active in the modern dance and acting worlds but I have to confess that I first saw you in PERFECT DAYS. I loved that film - Win Wenders is one of my favorite directors. Your role left such an impression on me and made me want to know more about you. And now to be able to see you in our collection 6397, is a dream come true. Thank you so much.
I reviewed some of the YouTube videos that you were involved in and watched several interviews you had with the Japanese press. The words “honest” and “real” appeared over and over in your interviews. I loved that because these are sensibilities I always think about when creating my own collection 6397. I wish for the clothes to be real, timeless and that the final journey of anything we design is when someone wears it and injects their own personality and style into the garment.
And now I would like to ask you -
• Was it fun for you when putting together the pieces we sent you for these pictures? How did you decide on the accessories you used - socks, shoes, umbrella?
I love the combination of yellow, red, and blue, so I paired the blue pants with the red shoes and yellow socks. For the red pants, I chose blue shoes. The yellow umbrella is a traditional Japanese one. I bought it at "Tsujikura," the oldest traditional Japanese umbrella maker in Kyoto.
My husband took the photos!
He has a 9 to 5 type of job with a company, but he used to take photos as a hobby using film, and his images were beautiful, so whenever there's an opportunity, I ask him to take pictures. However, since developing actual film takes time, he has lately been using digital.
• I know the pictures were taken in Tokyo but can you tell me where in Tokyo and why you chose that location?
It's the path my husband and I commute on and walk daily when we go out.
That day we were both not working, so we went out at sunrise and walked down our usual path. My husband took photos while we walked to our favorite café.
That’s where we had breakfast and started our day. In the evening, we went to the movie theater and took more photos on the way back.
A drizzling rain started, so we used the umbrella from Tsujikura. We cooled down at the train station platform and then walked home. The humidity and heat of Tokyo was terrible. We could barely stand it anymore, so when we got home, we took a cold shower.
These photos tell the story of that day.
Usually, the paths and scenery would seem mundane, but thank you for the opportunity with 6397 during this shoot, as I was able to see things from a different perspective, and it was really fun!
• Did you feel 6397 worked with your style and personality - I hope so (he he).
I love the colors and designs, and above all, everything is so easy to move in! I wear it all the time! The sizing is also perfect, and I’m truly happy to have found 6397.
Wim didn't bring the role closer to me; he brought me closer to the role. I felt there was a connection with Stella san's way of thinking. It seemed like he valued the individuality of the person being reflected in the role.
I’m creating work and music for a performance at an Art Festival in Japan. I plan to dance in places like lakes and libraries. Recently, I've also been trying out performances using a microphone.
Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity! And Akane-chan, thank you for connecting us!
I visited the 6397 Instagram and website, and everything was so beautiful and cool, like scenes from a movie, so I felt a bit nervous. But I was relieved to receive such nice comments from everyone! It was really fun!
Actually, the location of "Perfect Days" was about a 10-minute walk from my house, and we also did the 6397 shoot in that vicinity. So, it all feels like part of my daily life, "Perfect Days," and 6397 all exist on the same line, connected together.
