We are so honored and happy to show the beautiful objects and works of art created by the artists of the Creative Growth Art Center. It has been an annual holiday tradition at CGAC’s Oakland Studio that the artists create one-of-a-kind pieces that are shown and sold to their patrons. Now, for the first time, these pieces are available to view and purchase outside of CGAC’s studio. We could not be more thrilled to host this year’s holiday show at our store at 199 Mulberry Street in Nolita.
The show features Lulu Sotelo’s wonderful handmade dolls, Maureen Clay’s papier-mâché rock sculptures, and the textile basketry work of Walter Baldwin, among other artist’s works. Also available is a selection of the Creative Growth “Beyond Trend” fashions, featuring the amazing hand-worked garments of artists from the Oakland studio, with fabric painting, hand embroidery, weaving, wrapping and crochet, translating the artists’ personal aesthetic expressions into art that is made to be worn.
The Creative Growth Art Center was founded in 1974, and is a leader in the field of arts and disabilities, establishing a model for a creative community guided by the principle that art is fundamental to human expression and that all people are entitled to its tools of communication. Creative Growth is home to over 140 artists working in a variety of media. https://creativegrowth.org/
6397 and I have been long-time fans and supporters of CGAC. This special friendship goes back more than 20 years. My store in Nolita is not only a space to showcase the 6397 collections, but also to introduce and show the artwork of artists from CGAC.
This holiday show is truly special and I hope you will have a chance to visit us soon!
